John offers warm, patient support to adults and children in times of crisis and longer-term treatment to address deeper sources of inner conflict and distress. He works with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds struggling with psychological trauma, anxiety, depression, psychiatric conditions, substance or behavioural addictions, parenting, sexuality and relationship issues.
His practice is informed by his own analysis, clinical and theoretical training in Lacanian psychoanalysis, working at the coalface of suicide prevention and crisis support with Lifeline Australia, being a father and husband, and raising suburban milking goats and tech companies in Melbourne and Silicon Valley.
For John, the psychoanalytic experience shows that unconscious emotions and behaviours can create unhappiness, symptoms and other disturbances. Being hidden from us these may not be resolved by sheer willpower, advice, strategies and self-help techniques. With rigour and perseverance, psychoanalysis creates a space to reveal and take stock of such unconscious factors, opening up new pathways out of our personal and collective traumatic histories. John works with anyone curious to begin this short or long-term journey.
