Bea Smith

Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Bea Smith

Bea offers strengths-based and trauma-informed counselling to adult and adolescent clients. She provides a compassionate space to explore the roots of thoughts, feelings and behaviours and empowers her clients to take steps towards meaningful change. Using a holistic approach, she tailors her methods to clients’ unique needs and preferences, combining cognitive behavioural and emotionally focused techniques to navigate a range of mental health and life challenges.

Bea believes that to make long-lasting changes, it is often important to understand how past experiences in our school, work, family or personal life contribute to our thoughts, feelings and behaviours in the present. She collaborates with clients in setting therapy goals and engaging in emotional exploration at a pace that feels comfortable for them. She encourages clients to self-reflect in and out of sessions, learn new ways of responding to old triggers, and develop a variety of coping strategies to draw upon in times of stress.

Coming from a multicultural family, Bea lived in New Zealand and the UK before moving to Hong Kong in 2014. She aims to respect clients’ intersectional identities and use a culturally humble lens as a therapist. Her former career in language education and NGO work has given her broad experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and applying inclusive practices. As well as a counsellor she is also a corporate trainer and lived experience charity ambassador, working to support staff wellbeing and challenge mental health stigma within the wider community.
